Drew Thornley
Drew joined the Cai lab as a PhD student after graduating with a Cell Biology MSci from the University of Manchester in July 2024. His work focuses on engineering optimal lysis systems for synthetic bacteriophages, In collaboration with Dr. Claudia Igler and Prof. Michael Brockhurst. Drew’s research aims to explore the fundamental killing mechanisms employed by the natural viruses of bacteria, with the goal of enhancing synthetic phage therapeutics. Outside of the lab, Drew spends his time fencing, writing, painting, and cooking.
